Washington County District Study

Fort Ann School District is one of the seven school districts in Washington County that held a joint session to reveal the results of a study they undertook in the wake of the current financial climate.

In addition to Fort Ann Central School District, Argyle Central School District, Cambridge Central School District, Granville Central School District, Hartford Central SchoolDistrict, Hudson Falls Central School District, and Salem Central School District reviewed multiple aspects about each district to:

  • Identify the long-term fiscal trends for each district
  • Examine how the districts can work together to best provide educational opportunities for students
  • Identify areas for collaboration that will lead to greater cost efficiencies

Members from the Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA) presented the attached comprehensive report on the study and the findings. The PowerPoint from the evening is also attached.

Said James Dexter, WSWHE BOCES District Superintendent of Schools: "I commend each of these superintendents and Boards of Education for taking this step to examine their organizations from top to bottom to determine how to best move forward during this time of great fiscal challenge and shrinking enrollment. This study provides these districts with an avenue to start the process of sharing programs and services. However, make no mistake, the study clearly demonstrates the impact of the dire fiscal environment, and that these districts - like many districts state-wide - face an enormous fiscal cliff that will certainly affect each district's ability to offer the same type of program that is in effect now unless significant changes are made by the state as it relates to school finance."
