Updated Mask Mandate: Effective April 15, 2021

Updated Mask Mandate: Effective April 15, 2021

As many of  you may know, the New York State Department of Health ("DOH") updated its "Interim Guidance for In-Person Instruction at Pre-K to Grade 12 schools During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency".

Specifically, the DOH updated its guidance regarding physical distancing requirements in schools, to make it consistent with the CDC's guidance and recommendations on the issue.

We have begun to review the content with our safety specialist, legal counsel, and the Washington County Public Health Department to determine the best course of action and timeline for returning all students to full time in-person learning in the classroom setting as soon as it is safe to do so. As a result of the new guidance, there are different physical distancing rules for Elementary Schools than for Middle Schools and High Schools.

Rules are determined by where the community is on the CDC's levels of indicators and threshold for community transmission of COVID19.

Unfortunately, Washington County is currently considered to be "high risk." As a result, all students, staff, and visitors will be required to wear masks at all times (except when eating meals, snacks, or drinking) while in the classroom setting and non-classroom settings. This change will begin tomorrow, April 15th.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this change. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
